ALL-CITY
Player of the Year: Jayvaughn Pinkston, Bishop Loughlin
The chiseled 6-foot-6 Bishop Loughlin senior is considered the city’s top player and is one of the most highly touted forwards in the country. The seventh-ranked power forward in the national by Scout.com, Pinkston, who averaged 24.6 points per game last year, improved his shooting range during the summer and lists Villanova, St. John’s, Seton Hall and Tennessee, which recently received a commitment from Half Hallows Hills star Tobias Harris, among his favorites.
G Shane Southwell, Rice
The versatile Southwell can play all five positions on the court, but the 6-foot-7 senior, who will play at Kansas State next year, will start as a point-forward and create a devastating matchup problem.
G Corey Edwards, Christ the King
The junior matured in his first year on the varsity last season and the pass-first point guard, who has garnered interest from a bevy of Division I programs, is poised to breakout.
G Mike Taylor, Boys & Girls
A deadly 3-point shooter, Taylor has received dozens of high-major scholarship offers. He already specializes in late-game situations and spent the offseason working on ball handling and becoming a better playmaker.
F Maurice Harkless, Forest Hills
The 6-foot-7 Harkless can score inside and out. The junior enjoyed a breakout sophomore season, leading the Rangers to their first Queens crown, and has bigger plans in store for this winter. Major Division I programs Connecticut, Arizona and Florida State, among others, have taken notice.
F Jermaine Sanders, Rice
The 6-foot-4 junior emerged during the Raiders championship run and had a solid summer. The small forward, who has drawn interest from the local Big East schools, could have a huge season.
